History of this temple
Manu Temple is dedicated to King Vaivasvata Manu, who is believed to be the creator of the human race. He is also called the Sanatan Hindu Lawgiver. The ancient scripts have mentions of the Sage with the name Manu Alaya which translates into the abode of Manu. According to a legend, Sage Manu found a small fish in a river he was washing his hands in. The fish was Lord Vishnu appearing as a fish and asking the sage to rescue him.
The sage then put the fish in a bowl to save him. The fish soon became too big to fit in the bowl, so the sage moved him to a bigger bowl. The fish, however, kept on increasing in size and the sage had to move it back to the river. Once in the river, the fish grew to a size that the river couldn’t accommodate. The sage eventually moved the fish to the ocean.
It was then that Lord Vishnu appeared in his real form and informed Sage Manu about the flood that would wipe life off the planet. The sage then built a boat big enough to accommodate his family and nine kinds of animals, birds, and seeds. After the flood was over, he landed on earth from his boat and meditated.
The location where he is believed to have meditated is the location where the Manu Temple has been constructed. The king was thus known as a sage. Sage Manu is also attributed to the Laws of Manu or the Manusmriti, which form the basis of Hinduism through a converse given to a group of Rishis to guide them to deal with catastrophes and maintain peace and harmony in the society.
