Lakes in District Bilaspur
Gobind Sagar Lake:
Gobind Sagar Lake is present in the Bilaspur district on the Satluj river. An artificial lake of 168 Sqkm in the area and 88 Km in length formed as a result of the world-famous Bhakra Dam. Bhakra dam is constructed in 1963. It is becoming famous for water sport and fishing. Bhakra Dam is the world’s highest gravity dam, has rightly been described by Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru as a ‘’New Temple of Resurgent India’. The crystal clear water flowing out through river outlets in the shape of a cascade soothes one’s eyes.
Lakes in District Chamba
Located in the Chamba district of HP. It is 24 km from Tissa. The altitude from sea level is 3505 M. A Kali temple is located on its bank
It is about 24 Km from Dalhousie to Chamba. The altitude from the sea level is 1951 M. In the center of a grassy meadow, it is 1.5 KM long and 1 KM wide, and surrounded by cedar forest, a small lake called the Kund, that forms the centerpiece of Khajjiar. This is a magical paradise. Kumarwah or Kamrunag:
It is a very famous lake of Lake Mandi. Here is the fair on 14th June every year. It is believed that the deities here are the god of rain and people around here demand rains of rain every year. The sight of this nearby is about to free the mantra. The high mountains and trees of the mighty hills also increase its beauty.

Serolsar is located in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. It is surrounded by alpine forests. The water is crystal clear and residents believe that if a leaf falls into the water, it is immediately removed by a bird. The Serolsar Lake is dedicated to Budhi Naginthe’s mother of all Nag deities such as Shesh- Nag, Kamru-Nag, Mahu-Nag, Ghunda Nag and other Nag Lords of the state. There is a temple of Budhi Nagin (old snake goddess), a holy spot next to the lake.

It is around 45 Km from Nahan. Renuka lake is one of the picturesque lakes in HP with its crystal clear water. It is shaped like a sleeping woman. It is the largest natural lake in HP. The altitude from the sea level is 660 M. This lake was found when mother Renuka was sacrificed by her son Parshuram in obedience to his father, the sage Jamdagani. Every year in November a big fair is celebrating the immortality of Renuka and her son.
Suketi lake is located near the Suketi Fossil Park.
Lakes in District Lahaul & Spiti
Chandra Tal Lake:
This lake is well known as “Lake of the Moon”. The altitude from the sea level is 4270 M. Hiuen Tsang called it Lohitya Sarover. Chandra Taal lake is the source of the Chandra river.
It is also known as Surya Taal lake, the lake of Sun God. The altitude from the sea level is 4800 M. It is the third highest lake in India. Suraj Tal is the source of the Bhaga river.
Unam-So lake is situated in Lahaul & Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh.
Tso Morari Lake:
Tso Morari is one of the largest lakes in the Ladakh region. The altitude from the sea level is 4900M. This lake is almost like an inland sea.
Lakes in District Kullu
- Bhrigu: Bhrigu lake is located at the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. The altitude from the sea level is 4235 M. It is named after maharishi Bhrigu. It is around 6 KM from village Gulaba.
